Should Council Members See Inside Circus Area Before Vote?
>>> Orlando Bevington 05/09/13 1:55 PM >>>
Dear Mr. Rozansky,
Would it be possible to invite the City Council members who have never been inside the Arena for individual tours? I believe the only Council members who have not toured the Arena are Mrs, Gates, Mr. Daniels, and Mr. Carlesimo. I would also wish for Mr. Lavallee to tour if possible. The Foundation believes it is most important for these tours to occur prior to their vot

Changes in 2050 will help a few, cost many
Columnist Eric Ernst's column pointing out the County Commissions ignoring everyday taxpayers to cater to development interests is important in two ways. First, it reflects the views of hundreds of citizens on the substance of the issue and, Second, it should wake up a few Commissioners that the mainstream media is not ignoring their actions.

Land Use Attorney, Control Growth Now, principal, Dan Lobeck comments on Commissioner Poor Decisions
Sarasota County Commissioners voted 4 to 1 Wednesday to push through developers' changes to the Sarasota 2050 Plan by a "shortcut" that reduces input by the public and Planning Commissioners.
County Ordinance requires that any Comprehensive Plan amendment initiated by the County must first go through a public workshop and public hearings of the Planning Commission and County Commission on the proposed "scope" of the amendment. It's called the Scoping Process. Only then does the a

County Commissioners Consider Changes in 2050 Growth Plan that Nobody Wants --Except Developers

Here is a quote from his website as of today.
"“SARASOTA, Fla., April 2, 2013 – The sales madness continued at Neal Communities, as the unstoppable sales pace broke all company sales records yet again, with 91 sales in March.

I Remember Bird: "I Remember You."
This is what was like to grow up in NY listening to Jazz and discover (for yourself) Charlie Parker playing in Birdland. No other saxophone player I had heard, Coleman Hawkins, Lester, played like this. It was Stunning and I had to go back several times before I absorbed it. "I Remember You.". "Embraceable You" A different take by Charlie Parker
While this memory session is about "Bird" and his genius, it is worth noting that Miles joined Bird in 1945, when he was 19.
These recordings were in 1947. By 1949 Miles was recording as a leader, including the Nonet Album with Lee Konitz, Gerry Mulligan, John Lewis and other greats. I will put that up one of these days. Gil Evans arranged the music.
Meanwhile, enjoy

Here is some new info on keeping a Circus history alive in Venice.
Can Venice keep it Circus history? Several ideas deserve the City government's support, but citizens are going to have to convinCe several Council members to support this effort.
First, restore the smaller building near the trapeze school and permanently clear that open space so it is neat and attractive.
Second, preserve the framework and seating so that it forms the basis for an open-air Amphlitheatre for a variety od performances.
