Mardirossian/Marriott Backs Holic--JP's Website Comment
The Boone backed deal to build an Marriott on the Lake Venice Golf Course, destroying the opportunity for the average golfer who now can afford the course, seems to be returning from the dead. Perhaps even the Gondolier can understand what a Special Interest is, as they ponder this.

According to Sunbiz.org, Patents Innovations LLC is owned by Aris Mardirossian - who was tied to the Marriott deal. Read JP's story here: http://www.veniceflorida.com/features/honalu

Holic, Daniels, Posturing to Hear Themselves At City Meeting to Improve Permitting Process
At the first "breakout" session during the City's meeting to get builder and citizen input for approving the Permitting process, (a very successful effort which has developed many positive suggestions, along with criticisms of past performance going back years). John Holic continues to show lack of even fundamental facts about the City and, the Sunshine Law.
When Holic learned the City accepts cash for permit payments, he launched into a string of self-serving questions showing

Open Letter to Gondo, Which is Unable to Distinguish between Moneyed Interest and Neighbors.
This letter was sent this morning by me, as Mayor, to the editor of the Gondolier Sun.
I am astonished to read Greg's (note-News Editor Greg Giles) report on candidate views on special interests that does not challenge the assumption that an officer in a non-profit neighborhood association is as much a special interest as a land-use attorney, developer, insurance company or an entity that will appear before the City Council to ask for decisions that will benefit them financially.

Follow the CQG Money, Special Interests Step Forward
Hope to have a tame council help your development or business and need Council approval. Such folks
dominate the list of CQG contributors in 2009 and up to Oct. 15th, 2010
Let's look at the familiar names:
I am assuming that E.G. Boone still files the reports of the Citizens for Quality Government, but the Supervisor of Elections website, reproduces the contribution forms with no signature for the person filing responsible for finances. Boone has in the past

John Patten Provides Some Insight Into John Holic's Management Abilities at A.G.Edwards during fraud
In an astonishing rambling email, John Holic denies that Dan Boone is the architect of the CQG, listing instead a deceased citizen who was the figurehead. All legal filings have come from Boone's office. Jeff Boone's office invited Marshall Happer and other candidates to appear before a CQG committee of his brother Steve Boone, C.J. Fishman, who reminded past recipients on Council that we "had put you all in there" and David Farley. When Farley, a sitting Council member, heard that Mike Mill

MARSHALL HAPPER WRITES TO THE CITIZENS OF VENICE
Dear Friends and Neighbors:
I am a candidate for Mayor of Venice and I am honored to have the opportunity to be offering 3 years of public service to our City. I would like everyone to know that I am independent of all other candidates, all current and former members of the City Council and everyone else. I have acted independently my entire professional life, which has included careers in law and in business. I have been trusted as a lawyer to represent and protect the interests

INSIDE VENICE ENDORSEMENTS--AND WHY
MAYOR
Three candidates are competing for the Mayor’s Council Seat, #7, Marshall Happer, John Holic and Harry Walia.
Happer, endorsed by the Herald Tribune, has a vision for the future, planning to market the City to future residents, businesses and tourists. He points out the City is, in effect, a $60+ million business with no marketing budget or plan. He also wants to have a Charter Commission appointed to develop recommendations for Council salaries, benefits,

GONDO PRINTS FACTS--CQG CANDIDATES LIES EXPOSED
The Citizens For Quality Government, the old pols with special business interests, initiated by Dan Boone to assure his firm's development clients had a friendly council are back in business with "handpicked" candidates, John Holic, Jeanette Gates and Bob Daniels (really).
Here are the lies they have been spreading and which have been getting reported.
Do your best to work with friends and neighbors to present these facts.
Thanks.

World's Biggest "Pot Party"
The New York Times reports the Mexican Government siezed and burned 134 tons of Marijuana near the city of Tijuana.
The Times does not say how many people were affected by the second-hand smoke.
Peggy and I speculated on this over coffee this morning and I imagined a stoned Mariachi Band playing Jimi Hendrix's "Purple Haze." Peggy added, "Hola Amigo, digame una Twinkie."

Why I Am Going To Vote For Amendment 4.
First--What amendment 4 will not require, despite often misleading statements by opponents.
It will not require a special election to approve Comprehensive Plan Amendments. (At least one candidate for City Council, who has no experience in this area, has publicly stated incorrect information about this.)
A vote to approve or disapprove will follow Council Action at the next election. Since Venice has an annual election, this should not create unreasonable delays. Comp Pla

Happer, Lang and Zavodnyik Endorsed By Herald Tribune:
Independence of Special Interests Recognized
The Herald Tribune's editorial page has always been more reasoned than some of its news reporting and they have kept their eye on the ball when it comes to substance.
Reflecting and increasing recognition of citizen views, preservation of the characteristics that have made Venice a model city, and studying the issue has won the highly influential endorsement.
