Let's Look at the Facts: Council had many accomplishments from 2007 to 2010
It has been written or spoken that the former Council did not accomplish much if anything good--mostly by anonymous politically inspired folks.
Here are some actual actions and events that took place, primarily led by John Moore, Kit McKeon, Jim Bennett, Sue Lang and Ernie Zavodnyik. I was honored to serve with them.

This is an Inside Venice and Outside the Beltway Rumor
A internationally savvy friend at dinner passed along this rumor and I hope you will take the time to comment. You can use a nom de ballot to keep private and also your email will not show.
In baseball terms the headline would read: "White House to Trade Joe Biden for Hillary Clinton."
What do you think of this trade, for-against-undecided, asleep, or whathaveyou?

First Question: Who benefits from this rumor? Is it a

Here is a Holiday Highlight for Sports Fans, Video from the White House of Stan Musial, Bill Russell
George Vecsey, a man chosen by the NY Times to write its most prominent column, Sports of the Times, has semi-retired from the Times--he will contribute from time to time.
His biography of Stan Musial, known to fans of all baseball teams as "The Man" or "Stan the Man" was published this year and the paperback version will be published in May 2012.
George Vecsey has a new website and, having the good fortune to be his occasional correspondent, he sent me notice of

GULF COAST GRANTS TARGET SOCIAL SERVICE DELIVERY
Foundation Awards $374,521 in Operating and Program Grants in December
In a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing, I am afraid, the wonderful asset to the community that is the Gulf Coast foundation may be overlooked. Here are some grants helping people in this area, some using funds from the original Venice endowment and some the much larger resources that come from donor-advised funds. (editor)
VENICE, FL (Dec. 21, 2011) .

Toscana Isles Wants 21 Acres Added, Converting from Commercial to PUD: Trade-offs Possible?
The developers of Toscana Isles, (Laurel Road and Knight's Trail Road) want to add 21 acres to the plat already approved for up to 1600 units of housing, single family and multi-family and a small commercial area.
The project did not receive careful attention to its separation from unpleasant neighboring roads and industrial development. Only 50 feet will separate some units from Knight's Trail Road, used daily by the County's Waste Management trucks going to the landfill. Also th

Remembering the Great Valve-Trombonist, Bob Brookmeyer
Here with Gerry Mulligan in "Bernie's Tune."
This clip is from 1981, with Ray Brown and Art Blakely. Bernie's Tune was an anthem of "Cool Jazz," I first heard it on Pacific Jazz around 1952. The contrepuntal interchanges with Brookmeyer and Mulligan and similar interchanges on other tracks with Mulligan and Chet Baker, came to be identifiers of West Coast Cool Jazz.
Bob Brookmeyer passed away this weekend. Try to name another major league valve trombonist. At the time the best known trombonists were Kai Winding and J.J. John

Circus Foundation Chief Writes of Exciting Possibilities for Arena.
Orlando Bevington, who is a volunteer par excellence for the Circus Arts Foundation and its strongest booster, replies to some Gondolier, anonymous, "Let 'em Have It" suggestions to destroy the arena.
I think the Circus Arts Foundation has its work cut out for it, but the City should get behind it as much as possible, because the possible payoffs for the City and the area economy could be very large.

"How Badly America Is Hurting Its Middle Class"
Here are some thoughts for Republicans as well as Democrats which suggest that there are problems in the US that we must face.
"In a Bertelsmann Foundation study on social justice released this fall, the United States came in dead last among the rich countries, with only Greece, Chile, Mexico and Turkey faring worse. Whether in poverty prevention, child poverty, income inequality or health ratings, the United States ranked below countries like Spain and South Korea, not to mention J

Council Must Let Next City Manager Lead
From the Venice Gondolier Sun, Dec.10,2011
"My guess is Venice will not have a long-term city manager unless a new council majority emerges that is willing to accept that the city manager is the CEO of the city, and council is not hands-on management, issuing orders, directly communicating and influencing staff, who often are afraid of job recriminations if they are not responsive to council members."

See below for the Official Venice Newsrelease: Meanwhile here are the rumors flying around town. (Over Golden Beach, alas).
Rumors: The Russian pilot spoke no English so he was thought to be from Saudi Arabia. Later he was taken to Northport to be interrogated.
The U.S. shot down his plane in retaliation to Iranian attacks on our drone. Iran and Russia are tight. Putin savagely attacked Hillary over this incident.

LETTERS TO VARIOUS EDITORS/JOURNALISTS, FROM INSIDE VENICE FLORIDA.COM
Dear Eric Ernst,
We read with interest your column, Dec. 9, 2011, on White Pages gone missing. We have had the same experience, contacted the computer to order White pages at Verizon, and found it did not speak English fluently, or perhaps receive English fluently. When asked how many white pages we wished, we answered one Venice and one Sarasota County. We were told Sarasota County would cost $15.00. We have moved toward isolationism.

Take 15 minutes to listen, a live recording from Montreaux, 1975:Oscar, Bags,Toots, Joe Pass...
I have loved this album, released by Norman Grantz, and think it is worth taking a little time and just listening to Reunion Blues. In addition to the above, Neils-Henning Orsted Pederson and Louie Bellson make the sextet.
