South County Jazz Celebrates 2nd Anniversary. Reports it is one of the most active in nation.
In just two years, our membership has reached more than 250 and continues to grow steadily. We presented more than 90 concerts, making us one of the most active jazz clubs in the country. Next season our activities will nearly double, with new venues and a new and exciting series featuring name artists, as we continue our growth, based on dedication to pure, mainstream jazz.

Our weekly jam sessions at Allegro Bistro are consistently sold out, even through the summer! At the 68t

Venice City Council News: Circus Arena Road-Red Light; Long Dock-Yellow; Fire Fee-Green Light

Back from here and there and catching up.

City Council, correctly I think, decided to not build a road through the Circus Arena grounds, which it appears from drawings and comments would have made the use of the area for performances, circuses and otherwise, impractical if not impossible. The Council had previously allowed the Circus Arts Foundation to have a five year period to raise the funds to rehabilitate the arena and begin to draw people to Venice.

Summer Sequence By Ralph Burns, 1948: Arranger for Woody Herman. Early Autumn, part 4
In 1949 four freshman at Muhlenberg College used to listen to jazz from Philadelphia and, when reception was good, from NYC.

A favorite was Woody Herman's band, the 2nd Herd, I believe, and the sax section became known as the "Four Brothers:" Zoot Sims, Al Cohn, Serge Chaloff on Baritone, and a youngster named Stan Getz, not really well known. Woody played alto and clarinet.
